Dr. Jeff Stroud writes: In the cut throat world of sports supplements, everybody’s looking for the next explosive idea, the next super formula, the next creatine. Supplement companies want to create it, and bodybuilders and athletes want to take it. But the best supplements aren’t created or manufactured, they already exist in the laboratories of our bodies, waiting to be discovered, analyzed, exploited.

Take creatine; a simple compound with monumental effects. You can make your own guess on whether its bigger impact was ergogenic or financial, but the fact remains that it didn’t need slick marketing, complex manufacturing, or convoluted science. It sold itself because it worked. Soon enough, every major supplement company packaged it, and in most cases, did so rather cheaply. And so the phenomenon began.
